Campaign to end Immigration Discrimination

Caregivers Action Centre has teamed up with the Migrant Workers Alliance for Change, HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic of Ontario, Council of Canadians with Disabilities, Parkdale Community Legal Services, GABRIELA Ontario, directly affected people and others to launch a campaign to end the Medical Inadmissibility Regime in Canada. See here to see a video of one of our most recent actions, where we paid a visit to the Minister of Immigration Ahmed Hussen’s office in March, 2018 to demand a repeal of this discriminatory law.

Did you know that Caregivers and other migrants can be barred from obtaining permanent residency if they or a sponsored family member is sick or has a disability? This is unjust! Several brave caregivers have come forward to oppose this discrimination, and we invite you to join us!

Josarie Danieles and her daughter Precious, pictured below, have courageously come forward about their situation. Precious, having been diagnosed with developmental delays, was deemed medically inadmissible by the Canadian government because they said she would place an “excessive demand” on the health and social service systems here.

We demand an end to this discrimination! We demand that the Canadian government repeal Section 38(1)(c) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), and grant full permanent residency status to Josarie and her family, and all other families that have been impacted by this provision in the last ten years.

Mission and Vision

The Caregivers’ Action Centre’s mission is to educate, inform and inspire caregivers.

The organization envisions to work collectively and in unison until all caregivers are treated with respect, fairness and dignity.
