I would like to believe that all of us had gone through different levels of difficulties or struggles while we were applying to come to Canada. Given that, the bait for us to come here is to have a better life and a lot of opportunities… the so called, “Place of Milk and Honey”. I have no regrets. Canada is a great place to live and with a lot of things to offer, but not all of us are given the bread and butter. From my experience, as a victim of the bogus operandi of employment agencies here in Canada, it served as an eye opener about migrant workers, particularly in the Live-in Caregiver Program. As a testimony, I am a living example of exploitation and abuse – yet, it’s because of the help of other people, like Pura Velasco, who is a tireless worker for the live-in caregivers, that I have the courage to speak the truth, and know that we can all overcome our problems. I am a product of the great work of Caregivers’ Action Centre (CAC)… – Catherine Manuel
